This handbag was designed in cooperation between Goudleeratelier Van Soest and Marck & Mo, and will be distributed in one editions only. Goudleeratelier Van Soest is the Netherlands’ only gilded leatherworker. The second-generation owner of the atelier continues to keep the aging craft of gilded leather alive today.

Gilded leather is formed with a silver layer and then lacquered with a golden yellow varnish, which gives it the beautiful golden glow. With a mold, the gilded leather is printed in relief, after which, it is then painted by hand. Based on industry standards, only water-based paints and varnishes are used. The vegetable tanned leather that the bag is made of, creates a traditional, honest, and ecofriendly product.

Gilded leather originated in the 14th century, and was used in palaces and castles to cover the walls and reupholster the furniture. The combination of this aging craft and the rich materials used give the bag its unique design.
